Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse/Physician Support Nurse performs clinical and administrative tasks to keep the physician practice running effectively, with the primary goal of increasing efficiency and productivity. The Registered Nurse/Physician Support Nurse’s task list includes, but is not limited to:

  • Reviews patient charts in advance of appointments.
  • Verifies patient information; confirms purpose of visit or treatment; interviews patient; reviews and/or records medical history; performs brief physical assessments.
  • Accompanies physician into the patient examination room and accurately documents the physician’s encounter with the patient and others present using electronic medical system.
  • Educates patients during the health care visit.
  • Conducts pre-procedure visits with patients in clinic and surgery center.
  • Accurately and thoroughly documents medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by physician.
  • Previews all clinical data, lab or other test results and then reviews these with the physician and makes sure this is recorded accurately in the medical record.
  • Generates and submits orders as directed by the physician.
  • Communicates with patients and family members via phone or email.
  • Monitors physician’s calendar; communicates with scheduling team to ensure appointments are appropriate.
  • Triages messages for physician.
  • Travels to alternate satellite clinics as required.  Travel compensation provided.

 

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Nursing with 1 year of patient care experience required; Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Current MN license as Registered Nurse required.
  • Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) required.

  • Proficient in typing, spelling, punctuation, grammar, and oral communication.

  • Recognition of physical exam process and ability to record exam details.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in a clinic and surgery center setting on regular basis and occasionally accompanies physician to a hospital setting.

The employee must be able to sit for 90% of the workday. The employee must be able to lift or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

 

Compensation & Work Schedule:

  • Full-time: 32 hours/week. 
  • Non-Exempt.
  • Day Shift: Monday - Thursday.
